all things fall.

I recently came across this printable fall bucket list on the web and had to share it with all my fellow fall-lovers. What a fun and clever idea, right?! :){via Loves of Life}

I’ve also been coming across many sweet fall-inspired recipes that I am dying to try! Here’s just a few I’ve added to my “need-to-make” list:

apple pear crisp {via My Baking Addiction}

homemade caramel apple variations {via Brown Eyed Baker}

pumpkin pancakes {via The Curvy Carrot}

Are you drooling yet?

Happy Hump Day! Visit again soon! :)

textured tights & bow-tie blouses.

Outfit details: Gap bow-tie blouse – $1.35 @ TurnStyle Consignment in Minneapolis; Belt – free (borrowed from mom); Vintage wool skirt – $2.99 @ Goodwill in Coon Rapids; Apt. 9 herringbone tights – $6 (on sale) @ Kohl’s; Xhiliration booties – $7.48 (75% off clearance) @ Target.

Two trends I am currently loving are bow-tie blouses and textured tights. I’m also leaning more towards cable knits and wool pieces as the temperature continues to drop. And speaking of temperature drop – can you believe October is already almost upon us? Crazy! Anyway, I’d love to know – what are some of your favorite trends as of late?

Have a fabulous week everyone! And treat yourself to a delicious latte! :)

fallin’ for flannel.

*Excuse the camera quality in this post!

Outfit details: Mossimo flannel – $12 @ Target (last year); Liz Claiborne blazer - $5 @ MRCI Thrift Store in Mankato; Antique men’s Timex watch – $3.25 @ WSP Antiques in West St. Paul; ELLE jeggings – $13.80 (80% off clearance) @ Kohl’s; Simply Very by Vera Wang socks – $6 (on sale) @ Kohl’s; Rainboots - $25 (orig. $70) @ JCPenney.

“FALLin’ for flannel” – get it?! Fall is a time to bust out the flannel! Okay, there is my attempt at being humorous for the day. Anyway, when my 9-year-old sister saw me wearing this she said, “Jeanette, what look are you going for today – Paul Bunyan?” Oh, kids… gotta love how they keep it real with ya. But as I always say -  you’re just not a true Minnesotan if you don’t own a piece of flannel (or at least some plaid), and clearly fall/winter is the perfect time to wear it! So I did. And will many more times within the next few months.

Helpful hint – pair it with a blazer or cardigan to make it a little less country and a lot more chic! :)

simple slimming secret.

Outfit details: American Eagle button-up - $2.50 @ All in Vogue Designer Consigner in Rochester; Old Navy cardigan – $3.25 @ TurnStyle Consignment in Minneapolis; Vintage men’s Timex watch- $3.25 @ WSP Antiques in West St. Paul; Limited jeans – $2.50 @ Salvation Army in Columbia Heights; Mossimo heels – $29.99 @ Target (buy ‘em here).

My simple slimming secret? High-waist, wide-leg dark denim jeans… paired with pumps! Take it a step further by folding your pants along the inseam so that the fold line runs down the center of the pants, creating an extra elongated effect. Balancing out the dark denim with neutral-toned pieces completes the look! Do you have a slimming secret you swear by?

five fab faves.

Say hello to my current fave items!

First up – the movie Bridesmaids, officially out on DVD as of today (Sept. 20)! If you didn’t catch this hilarious flick in theaters, make sure to rent it! Or better yet - buy it at a discounted price via Amazon and watch it over and over again.

Second, the Sigma Synthetic Face Kit. This threesome of vegan brushes provides flawless makeup application at an unbeatable price. My only complaint is that I wish I would’ve known about these amazing brushes sooner!  Be sure to check ‘em out here.

Third - the various fall-scented Mainstays candles from Walmart. For a mere $3 a pop, you simply can’t pass up these amazing and affordable aromatic candles. While the Warm Apple Pie scent takes the lead in my book, Mulled Cider and Hazelnut Creme are also excellent choices.

Number four – ASICS Gel Arianna Running Shoes. I recently bought these bad boys and couldn’t be happier. Aside from the fact that they’re super lightweight and perfectly cushioned, I got them for a steal of  deal. (They were on sale at Kohl’s for $54.99, plus I had a $10 off Kohl’s coupon, which means I managed to save a total of $25 from the orignal purchase price.)

Last but not least – Naturally Nora baked goods. To put it simply, Nora is the natural version of Betty Crocker; her tasty baked goods provide all the full-fat flavor without all of the artery-clogging hydrogenated oils and additives. Read my full review on the Sugar Loco website here.

goodwill goods.

This weekend I was craving some thrifty thrills so I popped into one my favorite Goodwill stores. Here’s what I walked away with:

    • J.crew cropped pants – $4.99. I wore the same ones here, but ripped a hole in the seam shortly after I bought them and being that I’m not much of a sewer, they unfortunately hit the trash. So needless to say, I was overjoyed to find almost the exact same pair and in great condition!
    • Two vintage wool skirts – $2.99 each. Perfect for fall and winter.
    • Tommy Hilfiger flannel – $3.99. I actually found this in the little boys section, but it was a larger size and fit me perfectly. And as I always say, you’re not a true Minnesotan if you don’t own a piece of flannel!
    • Lastly, this metal twig fruit bowl - $3.99. I loved it’s nature-inspired look, and loved it even more when I found out that it’s originally $24.99 at Target!

So those were my fab finds this weekend! :) Have you scored any great deals lately?
