winter revolt.

Outfit details: Apt. 9 blazer - $4 @ Home to Home Thrift Store in Belle Plaine; LOFT blouse – $3.99 @ Arc’s Value Village in Brooklyn Center; Vintage clutch – $4 @ Sophie Joe’s Emporium in St. Paul; Antique cocktail ring - $12 @ Treasure Chest Antiques in Waseca; Express shorts – $2 @ Neighborhood Thrift Store in Mankato; Tights - $2.80 @ Forever21; Xhiliration booties – $7.48 (on 75% off clearance) @ Target.

Who says shorts are just for summer? If you have a pair of high-waisted or paperbag-style shorts, simply layer them over some tights or leggings for a fun look this winter! To elongate legs, wear the same colored heels as your tights. *See my original inspiration for this outfit here.

the table is set!

Before a meal is served, presentation sets the tone and can make for a wonderful impression. With Thanksgiving rapidly approaching, I couldn’t help but post some of my favorite place settings, all of which are simple, chic and cheap…  just my style ;)

baby it’s cold outside.

As you can see, snow touched down here in good ol’ Minnesota this past weekend; a sure-fire sign that the holidays are right around the corner :) While I’m not a fan of the cold and driving in the snow, I am definitely a fan of the nostalgic things that come along with it: hot cocoa, flannel, sharing good food with good friends and family… the list goes on! What are you looking forward to most this holiday season?

zara lookbook faves.

If you haven’t seen Zara’s November lookbook yet, check it out here!

While I would never pay full price for these items, it provides me with inspiration to replicate similar looks for fractions of the retail price. Below are my favorites! Which are yours?!

veteran’s day thrift store haul

As you all know, this past Friday was Veteran’s Day (a belated shout out to my fiance overseas and anyone else’s loved ones who has or is serving our country!!) What you might not know, however, is that many thrift stores honor this holiday and offer 50% off. I only went to one thrift store to reap this stellar sale (Valu Thrift Store in St. Paul), but one store was enough to give me bragging rights. Check out my loot:

IZOD cable knit – $2.49; paired with an oversized scarf and some skinny jeans, I’ll have myself a cozy chic ensemble.

Banana Republic blazer – $3.49; dressed up for office attire or down for casual weekend-wear, this is a versatile piece of clothing I consider to be a staple in any woman’s wardrobe.

ELLE sweater dress – $2.49; I’m thinking layered over a long sleeve and sweater tights, and belted at the waist. Add some boots for a final touch and I’m good to go :)

Liz Claiborne sweater – $2.99; you can never have enough turtleneck sweaters come winter time in Minnesota…

LOFT denim button-up – $2.49; a perfect pairing for my brown corduroys!

Jones New York jacket – $12.49; this will serve as my new go-to jacket for holiday affairs this year.

Nine West flats – $7.49; Nine West. Flats. Mint condition. Enough said :)

Bachman’s brass birdie paper weight – $1.97; makes for cheery desk decor.
