I’d been seeing lots of bar carts, or also referred to as ‘entertaining carts’, on Pinterest and blogs lately. I started doing a little research and found that they can get to be on the rather spendy side (reference here, here or here), so when I recently spotted one sitting behind my parent’s garage just collecting dirt and rust, naturally I knew I had to have it. With the cart’s poor shape and my love for the magic of spray paint, you can probably guess what I had in mind to spruce it up…
First and foremost, I gave it a quick spray down to get rid of the cob webs and outer layer of dirt. Next, I disassembled it, gave it a good cleaning with a scrub brush and some TSP, and sanded all the parts. From there it was time to spray paint! I battled with colors for a while but opted to go with a lagoon-hue for a fun pop of color on the deck since that’s where I planned to have it sitting for outdoor entertaining!
I originally intended to leave the legs as-is, but upon closer inspection it was clear they needed some freshening up. We have a black metal outdoor dining set and decided (thanks to my mom’s suggestion) it would be best to make it feel like it went with the set. So black it was! After letting everything dry for 24 hours, I re-assembled the pieces. The silver screws were a bit of a contrasting eyesore, so I then went over those with the black spray paint as well.
Here is what I ended up with:
Not bad for just the cost of some spray paint, eh? My plan is to have it stationed on our deck during the summer to hold extra plates, drinks, condiments, etc. when we are entertaining outside or grilling! I figure it could also be used to hold potted herbs :)
What color would you have chosen?
awesome!
Love it! And you are so lucky you didn’t have to go far to get it ;)

love it! I have an old wooden outdoor chair that I redid in a very similar color.
Looks great, Jeanette! That will come in handy!
Pop of color is gorgeous!
